Meet the Minds Behind the Numbers
A creative and dedicated team turning bookkeeping into an art form.
Geeta Badkar
Owner & President
Born of two immigrant parents from opposite sides of the globe—and any spectrum you can imagine—Geeta embodies a similar juxtaposition as an analytical yet artful bookkeeper (yes, it’s possible!).
Roused by her Indian father who talked big and dreamed even bigger, and her Danish mother’s common sense and protection of the dare-to-dream mentality, Geeta reveled in the chaos of her dual identity and used it to her benefit throughout her professional career. After graduating summa cum laude from Pomona College (Claremont consortium) with a B.S. in Biology (but not before an existential awakening on a study abroad trip that led her to *almost* pursue becoming a nun in the Himalayas), Geeta veered from the academic environment to pursue a career at a swanky contemporary art gallery on Newbury Street in Boston (as one does). Bolstered by the rigors of her education and her innate creative spirit, she soon became the director and discovered some serious business chops to boot.
From science to art, from east to west (remember that whole dichotomy thing?), Geeta eventually returned to her natal home in Los Angeles to help her father’s growing business, becoming the Chief Financial Officer of an international manufacturing and import/export company based in Los Angeles and China. She held the position for ten years before starting her own business specializing in bookkeeping and business management in 2011.
Geeta’s clients are the lucky benefactors of the burning conflict between her right and left brain, for the equal application of these opposing forces results in her ability to develop streamlined systems and processes run with an exacting degree of perfectionism, but all in the service of keeping the client’s big picture in mind—in other words, while Geeta actually enjoys getting down in the weeds, she never gets lost in them.
Geeta sees art in the patterns of bookkeeping (it’s true!). While there may only be one right answer (2 +2 always equals 4), there are many paths to get there; finding the best, most efficient path for each business’ specific needs can be both creative and challenging. She finds it satisfying to create order out of chaos, gleaning invaluable knowledge and business insight from the patterns of information that emerge once the detritus is cleared away.
Geeta works with artists, designers, architecture and construction firms, talent agencies, producers, writers, therapists, web commerce and retail shops, property management companies, real estate owners, agents and investors, those in the professional services industry, and so many more.
In her free time, Geeta’s other interests include pottery and jewelry making, passions that both complement and act as a salve to the intense concentration involved in bookkeeping. And no matter how busy she is, she always manages to squeeze in lots of quality time with her beloved husband and son, and family and friends. After all, even the most eclectic of number enthusiasts knows that the true art of life lies in balancing not just the books, but life.
Lisa Mir
Staff Bookkeeper
Brainchild of an MIT chemist and a fashion industry veteran, Lisa has the mad skills to develop and manage intricate organizational systems and structures to keep high volume and high touch clients up to speed and perfectly tracked to the penny (while rocking vintage Vivienne Westwood)! Surrounded by volumes of notebooks filled with crazy diagrams that would make the ordinary person’s head spin, Lisa can pull up miniscule points of data and track down any error in a heartbeat, and if you’re lucky, she’ll serve it up with a pretty hilarious side of snark. True story – Lisa’s professor of Advanced Theoretical Calculus at Pomona College used to chase her across the campus to try to convince her to take more of his courses, as she was the only freshman that ever solved one of his mind-bending theoretical problems! Lisa handles a wide range of clients, with her current specialty being talent managers, production companies, creative branding and PR companies, and other high touch entities with daily needs. When not hard at work on your books, she spends her time knitting, playing with bunnies, and listening to some seriously dissonant sludge metal!
Kendra Chell
Staff Bookkeeper
Kendra joined Geeta Badkar, Inc in 2020 and has over 10 years of experience with QuickBooks. Being the co-owner of a top-rated pet care company, she understands all the ins and outs of how to run a business, what it entails, and how to apply bookkeeping to the task! She is infinitely patient with a serious can-do attitude and has the skills to work with a wide breadth of companies. Kendra is currently focused on clients in talent management, production companies, artists and designers, architecture firms, insurance services, non-profits and high net-worth individuals. When not hard at work on your books, Kendra can be found on your favorite TV show (yes, she’s an actor, too!), spending time with her husband and 8-year-old son, or embarking upon making time-intensive recipes like lasagna from scratch (which takes way too long – just ask her!).
Cornelius Harkins
Staff Bookkeeper
Cornelius is a modern “renaissance man” from the streets just off of Broadway with several years of QuickBooks under their belt. Thanks to their tenure acting on stage and playing in musical pit bands they have gained a lifetime of experience in knowing the importance of paying attention to small details and keeping well-organized. Ever able to adapt to new changes and flows (thank you, years of meta changes in League of Legends!), they will keep an active and sharp eye out for any new ways to efficiently handle what you need. Speaking of eyes, Cornelius’s eyes (all 4 of them) keep a strong focus on clients' books and goals, with their gaze heavily on e-commerce, therapists, non-profits and real estate. In their off-time, Cornelius can be found in the bot lane of league, gently caring for their pet tarantulas, eating several bowls of hand-pulled noodles, or up on a roof top fiddling away on their sax.
